The studies are structured in different modules. In order to obtain the AMASE Master’s Degree you will need to successfully pass special module elements, like lectures, workshops, tutorials, laboratory and project work, etc. More information about the modules and courses will be given to you at each university at the time of your arrival. You will be guided through the process of choosing the courses that you would like to attend, in accordance with the local regulations.

In the first semester: 30 Credit Points must be earned. At least 25 of these must come from exams of the following subjects:

In the second semester, you will have to select one of the following specialization tracks:

• Track 1: Advanced metallic materials
• Track 2: Polymers and composites
• Track 3: Smart surfaces and functional materials
• Track 4: Advanced processing technologies
• Track 5: Bio/Nano materials

At least 25 of the 30 Credit Points to earned in the second semester must be part of the technical courses, seminars and/or project work for the selected track.

In the third semester, the student continues their specialization track at the Second University. Here, 25 Credit Points must be earned from technical courses relevant to the chosen track.

Transversal skills module: 15 Credit Points in Total has to be earned from transversal skills (10 CP corresponds to 1st year at the Entrance University, and 5 CP corresponds to the 3rd Semester at Second University). The CP for this module has to be earned from the following elements:

• Participation in Integration Week and Professional Summer School (2 CP)
• Language courses (at least 6 CP)
• Additional transversal skills from the catalogue provided by each university (at least 3 CP)

In the fourth semester, the student has six months to write their Master’s Thesis. Upon passing, the last 30 Credit Points will be awarded.

Note: A degree can only be obtained if the total amount of participation fees has been paid before the Master is completed.

ATTENTION: Students studying at UdS for their first or second year must have completed a minimum 6 week materials science or materials engineering related internship / work experience at a company.
If this is done during your AMASE studies, you can be awarded 6 ECTS. If this was done during your Bachelor studies or you had a job in the field before starting AMASE you will not be awarded 6 CP but you fulfill the requirements for the master. In this case you have to hand in written proofs of these activities. You can find the details how to proceed and what to hand in here.
*Note: students with UdS as university combination must reach at least a B2 level of German demonstrated with one of the official certificates listed under UdS here in order to obtain the master’s degree. AMASE General Master’s Degree Certificate

The examination office at UdS in Saarbrücken, Germany, provides a general Master’s Degree Certificate which you can ask for after having obtained the certificates of the two respective universities you studied.

• Track 2: Polymers and composites (modelling, processing and tailored properties)
• Track 3: High performing surfaces (coating, structuring and fictionalization)
• Track 4: Materials engineering and manufacturing technologies
• Track 5: Bio/Nano materials (including special applications)

At least 26 of the 30 Credit Points earned must be part of the technical courses, seminars and/or project work for the selected track.

In any case, the total amount of Credit Points from technical courses in the correspondent track (2nd and 3rd semester) has to be at least 53 CP.

In the third semester, the student continues their specialization track at the Second University. Here, 26 Credit Points must also come from technical courses relevant to the chosen track.

In the fourth semester, the student has six months to write their Master’s Thesis. Upon passing, the last 30 Credit Points will be awarded.
