Erasmus+ Opportunities with EUSMAT
At EUSMAT we are proud to be part of the Erasmus+ mobility programme, the European Union’s flagship initiative for education, training, youth, and sport. Erasmus+ promotes academic exchange, intercultural understanding, and personal growth by supporting mobility of students and staff across Europe – and beyond.
What is Erasmus+?
Erasmus+ mobility grants enable students, teachers, researchers, and administrative staff to gain valuable international experience. It offers the chance to study, teach, or train abroad, broadening horizons both academically and personally. Participants benefit from:
- Studying or completing internships in another country
- Developing intercultural skills and language competencies
- Building international networks for future careers
- Strengthening academic and professional qualifications
What are the advantages of Erasmus+?
Beyond the invaluable experience of living abroad – something employers increasingly value – Erasmus+ mobilities offer clear benefits:
- Financial support through an Erasmus+ scholarship (amount varies by destination country)
- Exemption from tuition fees at the host institution
- Simplified enrollment at the partner university
- Recognition of coursework and credits earned abroad (after agreement with the examination office)
- Comprehensive guidance and support during preparation for the stay abroad
- Access to intercultural training, helping you adapt smoothly to a new academic and cultural environment

Why go abroad?
International cooperation is highly valued in both industry and research. Skills such as foreign language proficiency and intercultural competence play an increasingly important role when companies and institutions select employees. During a stay abroad, you can develop these skills while also gaining unique personal experiences:
- Facing new challenges and adapting to unfamiliar environments
- Discovering a new country, culture, and people – and making lifelong friends
- Broadening your horizons academically, personally, and professionally
These experiences will not only enrich your studies but also give you a strong advantage in your future career.
Exchanges within Europe and beyond
Through Erasmus+ mobilities, students and staff can participate in exchanges at partner universities across Europe. In addition, the programme also supports international mobility with countries outside of Europe through the Key Action 171 (KA171) scheme.
EUSMAT at Saarland University actively fosters these global connections. Currently, we are proud to maintain partnerships with institutions in Argentina and Morocco under KA171. These collaborations give our students and staff the unique opportunity to study, research, or teach in these regions – and to welcome participants from our partner universities to Saarbrücken.
