Erasmus+ within Europe

Which type of mobility can be supported?

The following mobility activities are supported:

  • Study abroad for students
  • Internships abroad for students
  • Mobility of teaching staff
  • Mobility of administrative staff

In concrete terms, this means: Every student in Europe – and therefore also at Saarland University – can and is encouraged to go abroad during their studies and will receive financial support for doing so.

Which institutions are relevants?

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Saarland University has partnerships with following institutions in Europe:

  • Université de Lorraine (France)
  • Université de Technologie de Troyes (France)
  • Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy)
  • Politechnika Warszawska (Poland)
  • Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain)
  • Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria)
  • Luleå tekniska universitet (Sweden)

Do you want to go to another university?

It is also possible to choose a university with which another department of Saarland University has an Erasmus cooperation. In this case, you can apply there to the departmental coordinator for further steps. Information about which cooperation agreements exist between Saarland University and other international universities can be found on the Moveon Database.

Aplication

All applications for Erasmus stays at our partner universities are handled through the EUSMAT office. Your contact person is Claudia Heß.

The application deadline is September 15 of the previous year for the summer semester and March 15 of the same year for the winter semester.

Required application documents:

  • Application form
  • Tabular CV in German
  • Motivation letter in German (approx. one page)
  • Transcript of records of all examinations completed so far
  • List of courses attended in the last two semesters
  • Proof of sufficient language skills for the respective country (certificates, proof of longer stays abroad, confirmation of language courses taken at the Language Center, etc. → see language requirements of each partner university)

Please also indicate your second and third choice of university on the application form. This allows us, in case your first choice cannot be granted, to offer you an Erasmus place at another university without delay. Indicating a second or third choice will have no influence on the decision regarding your first choice.

You can either send the documents to us scanned via email or submit them in person (please staple them together, no folders!). After reviewing your documents and if your application is approved by EUSMAT, we will inform the partner university that you would like to study there as an Erasmus student. You will then receive further documents and instructions from us, and an additional email with further information directly from the partner university.

Who can apply?

Any student enrolled at Saarland University, regardless of nationality, is eligible to apply for an Erasmus scholarship. The maximum funding period is 12 months, which can be made up of different stays abroad (e.g., one semester of study in Warsaw and three months of internship in Sweden).
